Nathan Anderson

Dr. Nathan Anderson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Neuroscience Center at Brigham Young University. He has undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Human Biology from Michigan State University. He earned his Masters and PhD in Psychological and Brain Science from Washington University in St. Louis, after which he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Neurology Department at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

He is interested in how the brain allows us to create complex mental representations, whether as memories or imagined scenes. He uses both introspective behavioral methods and dense-sampling fMRI to assess the brain networks that support these cognitive processes.

I’m a Junior majoring in Psychology and Spanish. I have always been fascinated by the brain but truly am not sold on what path I want to pursue for grad school. I am keeping as many doors open as possible while seeking learning in areas of psychology that interest me. Currently, the most probable path for me is to pursue a Ph.D. In clinical psychology with a likely research emphasis in behavioral neurobiology or multicultural psychology!

I’m currently a junior here at BYU, and I am a big fan of the human brain. As an English major and a Psychology minor, I get to use both the humanities and the sciences to study human thought and experience, and I love it. I’m particularly interested in learning more about the physical neural pathways of the brain that interact with and produce the subjective memory, emotions, and imagination of the mind. After graduation, I hope to continue my studies as a Ph.D. student, then enter the workforce as a clinical psychologist. In my free time, I like to jam out to my favorite songs, conquer nearby hiking trails, and daydream about future roadtrips!

I’m a sophomore majoring in Neuroscience with a strong interest in how the brain allows us to visualize, process, and retain information. I’m particularly fascinated by brain imaging and the connection between the eyes and the brain, especially how what we see is transformed into meaningful information and memories. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career in ophthalmology. Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially skiing and fly fishing.

I’m a Sophomore majoring in Neuroscience, and I was first captivated by the brain when I learned this simple truth: not all people can see images in their head. Having this blind mind's eye, termed as aphantasia, motivated me to pursue a research experience where I can discover how the brain functions. My areas of interest are in mental imagery, memory, and learning. After my undergraduate years, my current plan is to apply for medical school and eventually train to be a neurosurgeon.
